Each time I used it, acnes started to appear and then when I stopped using it, I was ok..I tested it 3 times and each time I started to use it, I broke out in painful acne. I was really looking forward to a clearer skin and instead ended up with blemishes

Made no difference

I used the whole bottle which lasted a decent amount of time. I took ‘before’ photos before starting the product and ‘after’ photos once i had finished the bottle. I did not see a single change to my skin in the mirror from using this product. I went back and compared the ‘before’ photo and it confirmed my thoughts - this product did nothing for my uneven skin, nor did it brighten in any way. For the price i paid for this, it was a serious waste of my money and i cannot understand what this does to other people’s skin, that it failed to do to mine.

Skin looks great

No significant results

Liquid gold for sensitive skin

This is SO good. I've suffered from post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) on my upper lip for 3.5 years, caused by prior years of clearly not using enough sunscreen, which was then worsened by a chemical peel that made it even darker! I've tried so many anti-pigment treatments (plus suncream of course) but most of them irritated my skin, therefore making the PIH worse. I've been using this product for 3 weeks & my skin is almost starting to look like how it was before the condition happened! I'm literally in awe! My only comment is that if I spend a day in the sun / near windows, I feel like my pigmentation gets slightly darker - but, I don't always have a chance to reapply my sunscreen as much as recommended. I'm going to add a vitamin c underneath & see if it helps protect my skin more. I'll post an update. Pros: Good for sensitive skin Alcohol-denat free Fragrance free Parfum free Amazing!!

Mixed result…

However, I decided to try it on the back of my hands, where I have more sun damage, here it definitely made a difference. Best results I’ve ever seen!

The jury's out

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently developed a brown mark just below my eyebrow and realised it's probably down to not putting my SPF, which I use religiously, on that area, it just never occurred to me. So I was very keen to see if the defense serum would help. I have been using it alongside CE Ferulic followed by mineral defense SPF in the morning and again in the evening. It applies really nicely and a little goes a very long way. I have now been using if for a few weeks and I think my skin appears a little brighter but so far there has been no improvement to the brown mark. I will keep using it and hope for improvement with longer time. I'm also now making sure to apply SPF to the eye area!

Bye bye discolouration

Amazing!

Great product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have oily skin, with hyperpigmentation from past blemishes. I look for products that won't break me out, but also won't irritate my skin as it can be sensitive from retinol use. This product feels nice to put on, no irritation, I like the fact it isn't acid heavy even though it treats discolouration. It contains niacinamide which supports the skin barrier, which helps with my sensitivity. My skin looks more even and bright, which I'm pleased with, and hasn't made me break out. I've only been using it for a few weeks so it's hard to tell if it's worked on the more stubborn marks, but I definitely think it's helped prevent new hyperpigmentatiom occurring after blemishes which is great. It also isn't too heavy and doesn't feel tacky on the skin like some serums, making it easy to layer products comfortably.

Exfoliating and hydrating

Brighter look

Magic in a bottle

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have some noticeable patches of discolouration on my face that I am quite self conscious about so I was keen to try the discolouration defense serum after having much success with other SkinCeuticals products. I love how this product just glides onto my skin and how it leaves it feeling smooth after application. Most of all though I love how it has made a difference to the light brown discolouration patches that I had on my face, in fact, they have pretty much disappeared (I wish I had taken a before and after photo). A very pleasant side effect is that it has also made a lot of my blemish marks and patches fade away to the point where they are hardly noticeable either. A little goes a long way too and although pricey, this product lasts ages and is definitely worth the investment. Another five star product for SkinCeuticals.

Works well but dries out my skin

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been using this serum twice a day for the last two weeks. First I was applying it all over my face, and with time I’ve noticed my skin is much drier than usual and I need to exfoliate as moisturising doesn’t help enough to keep skin smooth. However, a big advantage of the serum is that my acne scars appearance on the chin reduced a lot! Usually it takes few months for the scar to disappear but now I can see a big difference with only two weeks. Also it feels that new spots are less frequent visitors and even if they are, they are not so inflamed. Not sure if it’s related to the serum, but I like this extra advantage a lot. It might be related due to nothing else changed in my skin/food/sleep etc routines. Currently I continue using the serum but apply it over my chin zone only, as that’s the problematic area. That keeps my skin both smooth and free from discolouration. Happy with the product. I wish I took before/after pictures to show the difference!

Now I can get away with a tinted sunscreen instead of foundation

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am an avid walker, and despite wearing sunscreen every day, I have quite a few sun spots. When my adult acne cleared up, I was looking forward to giving up foundation and concealer, but my age spots just stood out even more! I tried load of different products, but nothing really made that much difference, so I was thinking of getting a peel. When I heard that Skinceuticals had launched a serum with 5% Niacinamide, which is higher than most, I thought I would try it. My skin can be really sensitive and loves niacinamide; I was also glad the ingredients list was so short - anything with a long inci list can irritate my skin. I had heard good things about Tranexamic acid and I wasn't disappointed. The sunspots have faded considerably so I never bothered with the peel. I have started using Mineral Radiance UV Defense spf 50 on top, so hopefully I won't get anymore sunspots!

The serum has a high-end feel and a powerful formulation . My overall uneven skin tone, which was caused by acne, has improved significantly . I also didn't have any skin purging as a result of using the serum. It is non-oily and absorbs fast into the skin. Brown spots faded

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] You really cannot go wrong ever with skinceuticals products and the discolouration defends serum simply works. I am 47 years old and two summers ago I was eating lunch, with the British sun on one cheek and i got sun burn for the first time in years. I realised I had forgotten my SPF. This burn has subsequently caused a brown discolouration which hasn’t gone away. It’s like a mass merge of my freckles. As a result, I’m quite paranoid to have my face in the sun and have felt my skin has changed slightly with ageing. I now use a concealer in that area because the light foundation doesn’t cover up. So I was keen to try and now used the discolouration defends serum for 7 weeks now, and my brown cheek has faded! Really chuffed. I use it twice a day along with the triple lipid restore moisturiser after application and I use the Glycolic renewal cleanser (once a day) in the morning before application. (I use a balm cleanser once a day too).

Lovely brightening serum

A lovely texture and a pleasure to use, seeing some results with continued use

It also got worse while I was on the contraceptive pill. I was very keen to try this serum as a way to lessen the appearance of these marks. This serum has a really lovely silky texture and is a pleasure to apply. I used it in the evening and I felt that it definitely started to make the brown marks look faded and less pronounced. I was aware that the product requires the use of a sunscreen, to avoid the marks coming back, and because it may make the skin more sensitive to the sun. I have never found a product that has lessened the appearance of these marks. I think results would continue to improve with consistent use.

Not for me

Unfortunately this product has not worked for me. It has not faded any of my scarring or dark marks. It makes my skin a little dry and my sun screen piles up as well. I'm pretty disappointed as this was an expensive product and sadly it has not delivered. I notice that the formulation for this one (UK) is different to the US one, which has a higher % of Tranexamic Acid and also contains Kojic. I imagine those two ingredients alone would change the results.

Great Texture

It has great texture and didn't make my skin oily at all. Regarding pigmentation I think it needs quite a bit of time to really see a big difference.

Clarified skin tone beautifully

12 weeks on just finished ! Wow

Didn't seem to make any difference

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used this once or twice a day for about a month now, and unfortunately I haven't seen any difference in my skin at all. I have a few dark acne scars and sun spots, but they're still just the same as always. I'm surprised as pretty much every other Skinceuticals product I've tried has worked really well.

Unfortunately irritated my skin

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am always looking for new products and formulations to tackle my pigmentation so was thrilled to give this a go. Unfortunately my skin reacted to something in this product so I was unable to use it long enough to see results. Really disappointed as I was excited to see what this new formula could do. While I can’t recommend it based on any personal results I do rate Skinceuticals highly and have benefitted from other skincare in their range.

Discolouration Defense Serum

Early days

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this serum for 3 weeks now, once instead of the advised twice daily. Applied in the morning on top of a vitamin C serum and left to sink in before applying moisturiser. The liquid is very light, with only 4 drops needed for complete coverage. I’m yet to notice a marked difference, but it’s early days and my sun damaged Australian skin can be stubborn!

Feels gorgeous

Smooth skin

It worked well on this and has noticeably lessened in colour depth since using this serum. I also used this on my face and can feel smoother, brighter skin looking back at me in the mirror. Lightweight

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A very light and non greasy serum that is easy to apply. Personally I think for sensitive/dry skin this product needs to be used with caution and used very sparingly at first as I found this product did sting a little when I first applied it.

Lives up to its claims and more!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just as I thought Skinceuticals couldn't get any better! This is a really lovely product. I've used it for about a week and a half now and can already see the difference. The immediate difference is the wonderful glow and complexion it gives as soon as it is applied to the skin. Over time I have also noticed that my complexion is clearer and less pigmented. I get regular breakouts and have recently started to see some dark pigmented patches on my skin after sun exposure - this product has 100% helped. It is really lovely on the skin (I would say perfect for all skin types). It is very quickly absorbed and is not heavy at all. I have skin on the oilier side and have been using this product in hot humid weather, and it has worked so well at balancing my skin also. The claim that it provides results in two weeks has been totally true in my case. This will definitely be my staple product from now on!

Great product

I really struggle with pigmentation and can see that it has reduced dark spots on my face and evened skin tone which is amazing. I have been using this new product for 2 weeks now and have seen a difference in the colour of my pigment already!! They are gone lighter, and less visible, pigment is very stubborn and hard to shift once there, but this product is doing wonders so far!! I love the texture on my skin as it’s not sticky or tacky, overall an amazing new product and will deffinetly be re purchasing when I have ran out!!

Great Serum

It’s not an overnight cure, no product can do that, but I have noticed a reduction in the intensity of my discolouration. I have areas on my cheek and forehead which are always worse in summer anyway. I think with continued use this will definitely help even out the skin tone and stop new areas of discolouration forming. It’s a lovely serum to use, it’s hydrating and gives a nice subtle glow to the skin. I use good skin care anyway but noticed a clearer complexion since using this product. Definitely will be adding this to my skin care arsenal.

Extraordinary Improvement

Interesting product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this serum now for 4 weeks. The serum is slightly sticky on the skin but after absorbtion and use of moisturiser is not so bad. I have a few discoloured spots on my cheeks an a couple on my forehead and do feel that they have paled very slightly but not significantly enough to notice unless under close scrutiny. However I am hoping that with continued use I will see a diffirence. I am a great believer that the older your skin is the longer a product takes to work.My hope is that it will stop further discolouration. Will review again in a further 4 weeks if results change.

Great serum

I bought this three weeks ago. I don’t feel as though I have given it long enough to feel the full benefits, but so far my skin is brighter and one brown mark on my forehead has definitely faded. I will certainly give it more time.

Good...but early days

I have some discolouration under my eyes , and although the undereye area looks really hydrated, the discolouration is still there - I think I need to give it more time. Smoother texture and slightly brighter skin

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have oily skin and suffer from uneven skin tone/skin texture, stubborn brown patches/spots, post-acne marks and discoloration on certain areas of my face. I have only been using it once a day at night and was pleasantly surprised to find that it didn’t tingle like I thought it would or feel irritating when applying it on my face. It’s great that it is fragrance/paraben/silicone free. Whilst using this serum, I’ve noticed that my skin texture has become smoother and slightly brighter. I haven’t noticed much difference in the really stubborn brown patches/spots and post acne marks as it will take time for them to fade. However I have recently had a new brown spot emerge before using this serum that was light and have noticed that it’s gotten slightly lighter. I had some redness on the top of my nose and noticed it was gone the next day. A family member also commented that my skin looked good. I am happy with the results so far and will continue using it. I know that it will take time to see a huge improvement in my skin as it has taken years for my skin to get to where it is before starting this serum but I’m hopeful that it will only get better.
